Cultural Road Trips Within One Tank of Gas

“The Scenic Route for the Culturally Curious.”

Brucemore Estate

Today I traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and visited the Brucemore estate. Brucemore is a gorgeous Queen Anne style mansion set on 26 acres of gardens.

We toured and had access to large portion of the house.  This is somewhat rare in house museums, as space is often used for offices and sometimes living space for caretakers.  Brucemore has several small cottages on site where some staffers live.

The house is very well interpreted.  Our guide, Elaine was very passionate about the house, and the families who lived here. She made history come alive, through her wit and her obvious love for the house.
They have a great event calendar which made me wish I lived closer!  Check it out at brucemore.org.
